Strawberry Mountain Retreat
Eastern Oregon Vacation Home
Our Eastern Oregon Vacation Rental offers its guests a unique opportunity to rest, refresh and rejuvenate themselves.
Registered as a tree farm, this hideaway is nestled among hundred year old Ponderosa Pines and Red and White Fir. There is a small pond about 100 yards uphill that draws in all types of wildlife. A wildlife viewing platform is located near the pond for watching the day and night time visitors.
The viewing platform will accommodate a Queen size blow up mattress for those wanting to sleep under the stars, or have a comfortable camp out for the young ones. And remember, "No Hunting", only pictures, please.
A large fire pit is just far enough away from the house to feel special, but close enough to run back for more marshmallows. Four large log benches have stump stands to hold your food and beverages while enjoying an evening by the outdoor fire. Visitors will be kept abreast of the fire danger levels and restrictions.
There are two bedrooms upstairs. The children's room has two twin beds, with floor space for a blow a up queen if you are hosting more than two. The two twins can be made into a King size bed on the floor looking out the picture window of that room if you have just two couples. Let us know in advance. The Master Bedroom is pictured with the king size floral covered bed. There is also room in here to put a crib or extra bed. The whole second floor is comprised of the two bedrooms and the master bathroom so the rooms are very spacious. This property is special because of it's exclusivity. There is an airport in John Day, Or, just 17 miles away that serves as major USFS Fire Suppression staging area. Life Flight and large private jets frequent this airport because of it's accessibility. Guests with privacy concerns can be into the property without any fanfare.
The quiet will be deafening. The birds may seem loud in the morning as there is no other sound. We do offer telephone and satellite television service, but our son believed we had neither until he was 6 years old so we are able to disable your connection to the outside world short of an emergency.
Hiking up the ridge behind the house gives a great panoramic view of the land below. You can go out of our land and onto the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness without even knowing it. Depending on your level of expertise or ability, you can gain as much as 3000 feet. Take your horses, or hire out. There are caves to explore and a GPS would be helpful. A local guide for that tour can be obtained for a very high price. For a moderate tour you can talk more than a few people into a hike for a nominal fee.
* You need to plan ahead for the supplies you will need. The nearest store is reminiscent of Little House on the Prairie. If you can't bring what you need, email your list and for a 20% gratuity it will be waiting for you when you get to the house. There will be back stock that we keep in the house such as canned goods used as a "pay as you go" method.
Did we mention the quiet? With 26 acres of our land surrounding you, you will be more in tune with your surroundings and the company you have chosen than most can imagine.
It takes a special kind of person to appreciate this home and it's surroundings. If this sounds like you, email us right away, as the dates tend to be taken annually.
